About Harnessing Change Psychotherapy
At Harnessing Change, we believe that healing and growth are most powerful when they happen in connection — with ourselves, with others, and within the systems we’re part of. Change can begin in two ways: when couples and families work together in therapy, or when one person takes steps toward growth that ripple outward into their relationships and community.
We are a husband-and-wife team who understand the work of healing relationships not just from training and theory, but from lived experience. Both of us grew up in less-than-ideal circumstances that left their mark on our relationship, and through our own personal and professional journeys, we’ve seen firsthand how challenging — and rewarding — the work of change can be.
Our practice is built on both compassion and courage: we create a safe, supportive space, while also asking the tough questions that help people see themselves and their relationships more clearly.
Our Specializations
Chris — Men’s Mental Health & Couples Therapy
Chris’s work has focused on men’s mental health for over a decade, both in private practice and as a lead facilitator of the COPE men’s mental health support group. His dedication comes from both personal experience and a recognition that men’s mental health is often overlooked in research and training. With no formal courses available, Chris sought out the research himself, building a unique perspective that has deeply shaped his work with men, couples, and families.
This specialization not only supports men in their individual growth but also helps couples better understand one another and bridge the gaps that can form in relationships.
Genevieve — Women’s Health, Trauma, and Anxiety
Genevieve’s work centers on supporting women as they reconnect with their values, commit to them, and begin to fully live them out. With advanced training in trauma, anxiety, and grief, she helps clients make sense of their experiences and find ways to move forward with strength and clarity.
Her approach is both empowering and practical — giving clients tools to better understand themselves while creating room for healing and growth within their relationships and communities.
Looking Ahead
Harnessing Change is growing. While currently led by us as a husband-and-wife team, we plan to welcome new associates in the near future who share our vision and values, expanding the support we can offer to individuals, couples, and families in Peterborough and beyond.
Community Involvement
Our commitment to mental health extends beyond private practice. For over 10 years, Chris has been a lead facilitator with the WeConnect Men’s Mental Health Support Group, a free, online peer-support program based in Durham. WeConnect offers men a safe and supportive space to connect, share openly, and support one another through life’s challenges.
This ongoing work reflects our values at Harnessing Change: mental health care should be accessible, compassionate, and rooted in connection.
Our Mission & Values
We started Harnessing Change Psychotherapy with a simple goal: to give clients the time, care, and personalization that can be harder to find in larger agencies. We believe therapy works best when you feel truly heard, understood, and supported—and when there’s space to build a strong therapeutic relationship.
Our work is guided by a few core values:
Accessibility – providing therapy for Canadians ages 11 and up, in person at our Peterborough office inside FlowSpa, or online.
Empowerment – helping clients build the tools and confidence to sustain their mental health beyond the therapy room.
Honesty & Care – offering support that is genuine, dependable, and rooted in compassion.
Family & Community – strengthening not only individual well-being but also relationships at home and in the community.
Clarity & Perspective – creating a safe space for constructive, objective insights that encourage growth and healing.
At Harnessing Change, we don’t just focus on problems—we focus on people. Our mission is to support you in finding healthier ways to cope, connect, and create lasting change.
Our Location
Harnessing Change is located inside FlowSpa in Peterborough, offering a welcoming and calming environment for in-person sessions. We also provide secure online therapy across Ontario for those who prefer or require virtual support.
Professional Memberships & Community Involvement
At Harnessing Change, professionalism and community are at the heart of what we do. We are registered with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO), which means we meet the highest standards for ethical, competent, and safe practice.
We are also featured on Psychology Today, a trusted resource where individuals, couples, and families can connect with qualified mental health professionals.
Beyond private practice, we believe in giving back. Chris has been a long-time facilitator of the WeConnect Men’s Mental Health Support Group in Durham, volunteering for over ten years to help men build resilience, share openly, and strengthen their mental health.
By staying connected to our community and professional associations, we ensure that our clients receive therapy that is not only evidence-based but also grounded in real-world experience and compassion.
“Our teamwork strengthens our ability to provide you with the most up-to-date and creative approaches to therapy.”
Gen and Chris Brown
