Individual Therapy

People come to therapy for many reasons — stress, anxiety, depression, trauma, or simply feeling stuck in life. Your main reason for seeking support doesn’t need to be about relationships, and we won’t turn you away if that’s not your focus. Therapy is a place for you to work through whatever challenges matter most to you.

That said, none of us exist in isolation. The way we feel and function as individuals often ripples outward — affecting our relationships with loved ones, colleagues, and even our broader community. In the same way, stress from those relationships and environments can weigh heavily on us and shape our mental health.

In individual therapy, you’ll have the space to explore your thoughts and emotions, uncover patterns that may be holding you back, and gain clarity about what you want for yourself. Sometimes this leads to stronger existing relationships; other times, it helps you set healthy boundaries or create new, more supportive ones. Either way, the work you do for yourself can open doors to a more grounded, authentic, and connected life.

Our approach is strength-based and empowering, while also inviting reflection on the difficult but important questions that help deepen insight. In this process, clients often find new perspectives, discover inner resources, and begin making choices that feel more aligned with the kind of life and relationships they want to build.

Individual Therapy May Support You In:

  • Exploring experiences of anxiety, depression, or trauma

  • Building greater self-awareness and clarity

  • Considering new ways of setting and maintaining boundaries

  • Reflecting on recurring patterns in relationships and choices

  • Creating opportunities for change in how you connect with others

📍 Sessions are available in-person at FlowSpa in Peterborough or online across Ontario.

Couples Therapy

Every relationship has ups and downs, but when conflict, distance, or unspoken tension becomes the norm, it can feel overwhelming. Couples therapy gives you and your partner a space to step out of those patterns and talk openly about what’s really going on.

We take an approach that is both caring and straightforward. That means we’ll listen with compassion, but also ask honest questions. We hold space for care and respect that helps each of you see things more clearly. Many couples find that this balance makes it easier to communicate, rebuild trust, and decide what a healthier path forward could look like — whether that means growing closer or finding clarity about the future.

Our approach is both direct and compassionate — willing to ask the hard questions while holding space for care and respect. Couples often find that this balance helps them see issues more clearly, communicate more openly, and consider new possibilities for how they want to move forward together.

Couples Therapy May Support You In:

  • Exploring recurring conflicts and patterns

  • Finding new ways to communicate and listen

  • Working through the impact of past hurts

  • Considering what trust, closeness, and respect look like in your relationship

  • Reflecting on shared goals and values for the future

📍 Sessions are available in-person at FlowSpa in Peterborough or online across Ontario.

Family Therapy

Families are connected systems — when one person is struggling, everyone feels it. Stress, conflict, or past hurts can create cycles where each person’s struggles affect the others, making it hard to move forward. Family therapy offers a safe space for families to slow down, hear each other out, and find healthier ways to connect.

We understand that what may look like “bad behavior” often comes from someone trying to cope the best way they know how. Naming this helps reduce blame and opens the door to more understanding and compassion. With support, families can begin to shift away from old patterns and toward new ways of supporting one another.

When families learn to listen and respond differently, each person has more room to grow, and the whole family system becomes stronger.

Family Therapy May Help Your Family:

  • Break out of repeating conflicts and patterns

  • Improve communication and listening skills

  • Understand each person’s perspective more clearly

  • Reduce blame and increase compassion

  • Build stronger, more supportive relationships

  • Create healthier boundaries and family roles

📍 Sessions for families are available in-person at FlowSpa in Peterborough.

Our Therapy Approaches

At Harnessing Change, we believe there’s no one “right way” to heal or grow. Every person and every relationship is unique, so we draw from a variety of evidence-based approaches to match your needs and goals. Here’s how some of the methods we use can support you:

Strengthening Relationships

We use trusted approaches like the Gottman Method, Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), and Satir Family Systems Therapy to help couples and families build stronger bonds. These methods focus on improving communication, breaking unhelpful cycles, and fostering deeper emotional connection so that relationships feel safer, healthier, and more resilient.

Healing from Trauma & Emotional Pain

Trauma can leave lasting marks on how we think, feel, and connect with others. With approaches like Somatic Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), and Narrative Therapy, we create a supportive space to process difficult experiences. These approaches help calm the nervous system, regulate emotions, and integrate past experiences in a way that opens the door to healing.

Managing Anxiety, Stress & Everyday Challenges

Life can bring overwhelming stressors, whether from work, family, or personal struggles. Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction, and Motivational Interviewing offer practical tools to understand thought patterns, reduce anxiety, and handle daily challenges with more confidence. These skills can also strengthen your relationships, since calm and clarity ripple outward into how you connect with others.

Discovering Personal Meaning & Growth

Sometimes therapy isn’t about “fixing” something—it’s about growing into who you want to be. Person-Centered Therapy, Narrative Therapy, and ACT help you explore your story, connect with your values, and move toward a more authentic, fulfilling life. When individuals feel grounded in their identity and values, relationships naturally benefit too.

Why This Matters

No matter where we begin—whether it’s working on anxiety, healing from trauma, or strengthening your closest relationships—change in one area often creates positive shifts in others. Our systemic approach recognizes that individuals, couples, and families are interconnected: when one person grows, the ripple effects can be felt in the whole system. That’s why we draw from a range of evidence-based therapies—so we can support you in creating meaningful, lasting change for yourself and your relationships.
